KU U16 Girls vs Penticton
Final Score: 3 – 1 for Kelowna
Scoring/Highlights:
The KU U16 girls came home as Okanagan regional champions following a successful TOYSL play down weekend in Kamloops. In the final, KU came out aggressively against Penticton with consistent offensive attacks. At the twentieth minute, Emma Johnson manoeuvred her way through the Penticton defensive line putting Kelowna on the scoreboard. At 30 minutes Penticton looked like they would tie it up but their hard high strike was just over the KU cross bar. With a minute remaining in the first half, Claire Culver took a volley off of a defensive Penticton pass and followed it up with a sharp angled shot giving KU a 2-0 lead.
The second half was marked with repeated attacks by KU supported by the great defensive teamwork of Krisztina Breti, Abbey Nyberg, Jenna Labossiere, Hayley Slade, and Lenasia Ned. At the 75 minute mark of the game, Jazlyn Lazar set up Claire Culver whose shot proved fatal giving KU a solid 3-0 lead with little time remaining. Penticton did not give up the fight, capitalizing in the last minute with a high shot just out of reach of keeper Avery Watson. Avery, who had an outstanding weekend for Kelowna United, was denied the shutout. The game ended 3 – 1 for KU. The Kelowna United U16 girls, coached by Linda George and assisted by Joe Breti, travel to the provincials in North Vancouver July 4-6.
The semi-final match saw KU U16 girls match up against Shuswap. The opposition applied pressure from the first whistle but the KU girls were first on the scoreboard when a corner from Emina Arima set up a sharp blistering conversion by Kiana Ajamzadeh 5 minutes into the match. Arima assisted again in the second half delivering a great cross that Emma Johnson volleyed solidly into the Shuswap net. With 25 minutes remaining in the game, Lindsay Lalach received a pass from Lenasia Ned and persistently forced her way through the box finally driving the ball in the net. Final score KU 3-0.

Kelowna United U14G vs Penticton Pinnacles U14G
Final Score: 3 – 4 for Penticton
Scoring/Highlights:
In this U14G Playdown game, Kelowna United (2nd place team) squared off against Penticton Pinnacles (3rd place team). 6 mins into the game, Lauryn Guy took a free kick that hit the post and rebounded to Avery Lawrence to put Kelowna on the board.

2nd Half: Penticton responded with a goal 7 minutes in followed by another 16 mins into the second half. Kelowna’s Paige Krivoshein ran the ball and fired it into Penticton’s goal to tie the game and take it to overtime. Overtime was two 10 minute halves with no subs. Penticton took the lead 5 mins into the 1st OT half. Kelowna tied it up in the second half of OT with a goal from Angelia Ostrom, assisted by Paige Krivoshein and Lauryn Guy. An unfortunate yellow card to Kelowna’s goalie Fiona Reha gave Penticton a penalty kick and the win 4-3 over Kelowna in overtime.

Scoring/Highlights:
The Kelowna United U15 girls went into half time down 0-2 with a remarkably more able Penticton team than we had faced in the past two meetings. A strong player in their forward line was able to ball handle her way through our defense several times and managed to put it by the keeper twice. Injuries in the back line didn’t help the defense. The task at hand seemed insurmountable, yet the KU girls came back with two goals in the second half to force overtime. During over time, Penticton again scored quickly. The KU girls had several opportunities to tie the game including a superb run and shot on goal by Amanda Campbell, however, we could not score in overtime resulting in our first loss to Penticton who went on to the final.
